Disney's Blizzard Beach

Blizzard Beach is certainly the coolest water park around, in more ways than one. The legend has it that a freak snowstorm resulted in Florida's first ski resort.

This park is for the real thrill seekers amongst you as it contains some of the highest slides on earth. During the summer you can expect the park to get very busy, so it's best to arrive early and avoid the weekends.

Park hours are 10am - 5pm during November 2001.

Here's what's on offer at Blizzard Beach :-

Summit Plummet. You'll need all your nerves for this one as you climb Mount Gushmore to the very top ready to make your simulated ski jump. This is the worlds tallest free-fall speed slide, at 120ft long, which sends you plummeting to the bottom at 60 mph. If you have sunburn on your back watch out as it gets a bit warm back there with the friction. Your swimsuit may also need extracting at the bottom of this amazing slide.

Teamboat Springs is the worlds longest family white water raft ride. The large rubber rafts carry up to 5 people down 1200 feet of twists and turns. This is a really good fun ride that you will want to do over again, and shouldn't be missed.

Toboggan Racer sends you head first down this eight-lane water slide. Great for racing your friends.

Downhill Double Dipper. Another great one for racing your friends. These two side-by-side racing slides send you shooting to the bottom at speeds up to 25 mph. Your 215ft slide is timed and displayed on a big clock at the bottom.

Rock Climbing on Mt. Gushmore. Climbers receive some quick mountaineer training before tackling this mountain. All climbing gear is provided. Located in the Ski Patrol area. Additional fee required.
Restrictions - 9 years and over.

Snow Stormers is another head first toboggan run. Three flumes descend from the top of the mountain through a slalom course.

Runoff Rapids is a single person tube ride down twisting, turning flumes. This has two open slides and one enclosed 'Black Hole'.

Chair Lift. This wooden bench chair lift, again in a ski resort style, takes you from it's base, right up to the summit of Mt. Gushmore. This is the easiest way to reach the top and quickest if the queue isn't too long. It's quite a long walk otherwise.
Restrictions - No babies or riding on laps.

Tike's Peak is a scaled down version of the park just for the kids. There's plenty of slides, squirting water and play areas to keep them occupied while you sunbathe.

Melt-Away-Bay is a one acre wave pool at the base of the mountain. Ideal for just splashing around, swimming or relaxing.

Cross Country Creek is the lazy river that encircles the park. You can float along peacefully on your tube, but watch out for the ice-cave as you will get splashed by the 'melting' ice from overhead. In other words very cold water.
Restrictions - Adult supervision of children required.

Ski Patrol Training Camp provides pre-teens with some interesting challenges and slides.

Slush Gusher. This speed slide is not quite as frightening as Summit Plummet, but it still takes a brave person to do it. This slide has quite a bump in the middle which has been known to send you flying through the air. Another great slide.
